Q. Why is my missed approach on my Garmin IFR Panel Mount or G1000 system different from the missed approach on my Jeppesen approach charts? Both my Jeppesen/NACO approach charts and GPS database are current.

A. There are several "multiple" approach charts published and plans to publish numerous other RNAV (GPS) "multiple" approach charts. When the database is populated with "multiple" approaches to a runway, these products will display "Z", "Y", "X", etc. in their approach identifier during the approach selection process; e.g., they will display "RNAV 21 Z" or "RNAV 21 Y". The database stores the missed approach with the "Z", "Y", "X", etc. approach. So, for example, when a pilot selects the "Y" approach and loads it into the flight plan, the corresponding "Y" missed approach is also loaded into the flight plan.

However, until the electronic database is fully populated, there will be cases where only the "Z", "Y", etc. approach is available and the approach identifier on the electronic database will only display "RNAV 21" during the approach selection process. If the pilot selects the "RNAV 21", which could be either the "Z" or "Y" approach, and loads it into the flight plan, the corresponding "Z", "Y" missed approach is also loaded into the flight plan.

For this reason, the missed approach on the Garmin IFR Panel Mount or G1000 system may be different from the charted approach procedure. Before executing the approach, you must verify the electronic Jeppesen database against the Jeppesen/NACO approach chart.
