NEW MAPS OF TUCSON AVAILABLE ARIZONA COMPANY USES NEW DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY PHOENIX – The 1999 edition of Tucson Metropolitan Street Atlas is now available. This edition marks the 21st annual update of this popular street map book, which deputed in 1978. Tucson Metropolitan Street Atlas is produced by Phoenix Mapping Service, publishing division of Wide World of Maps, Inc. With the conversion to digital technology, the atlas is now produced in colors that make it easier to read and identify features on the map. According to company vice president James Willinger, "Even though we have been making maps of Tucson since 1978, this is only the second year our maps of Tucson have been prepared digitally. The new digital work has over 200 digital layers which provide greater accuracy, content, and graphic treatments to make our new maps." The process took thousands of hours for the staff of programmers, cartographers, artists and editors to complete. The new colorful maps cover more than 2000 square miles including Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, South Tucson, Green Valley and Catalina. In addition to the updated street maps, the atlas contains a comprehensive alphabetical street index that lists the location and map reference to more than 10,000 streets. The book also contains enlarged detail maps of downtown Tucson, Tucson International Airport and the University of Arizona campus, along with helpful major street maps showing zip codes, and school districts. A large 17"x22" full-color fold-out map showing major streets is included as a special bonus. The comprehensive street index portion of the atlas is cross referenced to the grid system used for wall maps and other products they publish.
