Arizona Topographic Map Software Now Available Map Technology company releases digital maps for Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Central AZ Wilderness Areas Phoenix – Planning great outdoor adventures has never been easier, thanks to new digital maps on CD-ROM. A new series of software products, called "TOPO!" are now available at Wide World of Maps stores in Phoenix and Mesa. This helpful new software product gives hikers, bikers, hunters, and fishermen access to thousands of detailed maps of their favorite wilderness areas right on their PC. "While most other software products emphasize streets and highways, TOPO! focuses on the natural features of the land," explained Jim Willinger, Vice President of Wide World of Maps. "You can zoom in and see the individual twists and turns of a trail, fire road, and even a small creek in the backcountry. These topographic maps show elevation changes, which is of great importance to outdoor enthusiasts." This 2 CD-ROM set features 200 of the most detailed USGS maps available covering greater Phoenix to Flagstaff including the Superstition Mountains, Sedona and Verde Valley, and the Western Mogollon Rim. The maps are presented seamlessly, so you can print the exact area of map you need, even if that area is on multiple quad maps. In addition to USGS maps, the CD-ROMs incorporate U.S. Forest Service maps showing trails, trailheads, recreation sites, boundaries between public and private lands, and forest service road numbers. Integrated with the full-color USGS maps are intelligently built tools that provide everything a user needs to plan a route, find a campsite and print the perfect map. The TOPO! software makes it easy to navigate the map in three dimensions, generate instant elevation profiles, measure true overland distance, overlay navigational grids, access real time coordinates, export internet-ready maps, and print custom trails maps in color or black and white Trail elevation profiles, one of the most innovative and useful features of the program, uses digital elevation data to create a graphic representation of the ups and downs along a given trail. This feature will be particularly well received by those who have found themselves on a surprisingly difficult climb when they expected a leisurely hike. Outdoor enthusiasts who use GPS (Global Positioning Systems), can add the optional functionality of "TOPO! GPS" which allows users to plan a trip, load it into a hand held receiver and go into the backcountry with confidence. GPS users link their hand held receivers directly to the maps via a PC cable to upload and download both position and route information in the same way that in-vehicle navigation systems operate. Future updates will include the ability to use TOPO! in the field with palm sized computers and smart phones. TOPO! areas currently available at Wide World of Maps include California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Minnesota, New England, and the mid-Atlantic states with more regions slated soon. TOPO! runs on Windows 3.1, 95, and NT. The suggested retail price for TOPO! is $49. The optional GPS link, TOPO! GPS USA is $39. To order a copy of TOPO!, call Wide World of Maps at 602-279-2323 or visit their website at www.maps4u.com. -###- |
