Metro Phoenix Street Atlas
Includes 4,000+ Updates and Additions

PHOENIX

  • 311 new subdivisions
  • more than 4,000 new street segments
  • detailed maps of Estrella Mountain Ranch and Anthem
  • Spanish-language users' guide

Those are just a few of the thousands of reasons the 2002 Phoenix Metropolitan

Street Atlas (the Yellow One) is a must for anyone who spends time behind the wheel. Produced locally by Wide World of Maps, this street atlas, with the familiar bright yellow cover, is used by tens of thousands of drivers in the Phoenix area. Emergency personnel, delivery drivers, taxi drivers, and local businessmen have relied on the atlas for 27 years to help them navigate around the 2,400 square miles of metro Phoenix.

"People have come to rely on this atlas to help them get where they're going, the right way, the first time," says Bob Cournoyer, senior cartographer at Wide World of Maps. Keeping the Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas current has been a full-time job for Cournoyer since 1986. "This is the only atlas of metro Phoenix that's updated on an ongoing basis and published every year. It contains the most accurate maps of the Valley that you'll find."

An easy-to-use Windows® interface allows the user to type in an address and go directly to the part of the map in which the address is located. The complete and updated street index database of more than 20,000 streets is coordinated with addressing systems and map images to make finding addresses on a map simple. In addition, users can search by grid coordinate and township, range and section, and GPS users will appreciate the display of latitude-longitude coordinates. A handy toolbox feature allows users to measure distance and perimeters of shapes. Symbols, location markers and text can be added to the maps. Map images can even be saved and/or exported for use with compatible Windows® applications.

The accuracy of the 2002 Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas is a source of pride to Cournoyer, Wide World of Maps, and it's users. While the primary information comes from such official sources as the Maricopa County Recorder's office, various city planning, zoning, and parks and recreation offices, school districts and aerial photos, some of the best information comes from users. In the back of each copy of the Yellow One are Suggestion and Comment cards. Cournoyer explains that 100 to 150 cards are received every year from atlas users recommending changes and updates. "Our users give us the edge over the competition. They may point out that a street that the Recorder's office had shown as a through street is actually a cul-de-sac, or a street name proposed by a developer was changed to conform with a city's standards. We take that information, research it, and make necessary updates." Because of that attention to detail, area drivers realize that having the latest edition of the Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas is as important as a regular oil change.

The 83 pages of detailed maps include new golf courses, schools, parks, police and fire stations, major points of interest and gives users a detailed look at recent changes to the remote neighborhoods and ever-changing downtown areas. The 2002 Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas covers an area of approximately 60 miles East-West and 40 miles North-South. It includes 14 special map enlargements of particularly congested parts of the Valley. Users will also find updated versions of the local Zip Code Map, School District Map, Area Code Map, ASU campus Map and Phoenix Sky Harbor Int'l Airport Map. In addition to the updated street maps, the atlas contains a comprehensive alphabetical street index that lists the location and map reference to more than 20, 000 streets. A large 17" x 22" full-color foldout map showing major streets is included as a special bonus.

The 2002 Phoenix Metropolitan Street Atlas is available now for $18.95 at map stores, most office supply stores, book stores and blueprint shops.
