Amazon (ITM)
This map began life as an academic map called Amazonia. 500 copies were printed for an ecological conference in Hawaii on rainforest preservation. The scientists attending provided so much input that we added everything we could and ended up with a travel map to the Amazon River basin. It's a beautiful map for anyone exploring the southern parts of Colombia or Venezuela or the eastern portions of Peru and, of course, northern Brasil. It is the only map in print that shows the entire river and all of its tributaries. Unfortunately, it is almost out of print and cannot be reproduced in its current format.
The legend includes international, state, and provincial boundaries; paved highways, unpaved highways, main highways, other roads, seasonal tracks, and trails; railways; cities by population from metro to village; rivers, lakes, glaciers, swamps, and lighthouses; national parks and protected areas; international airports, domestic airports and landing grounds; points of interest; ruins; and mines, mining centers, mountain passes, active volcanoes, and summit elevations in meters. The map also features a place names index, plus a special protected areas of Brazil index.
