The most westernized of Russia's cities is Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad). Still proud of its role in initiating the Russian revolution that overthrew the Czar, the Winter Palace in the heart of the city has been converted into a marvellous gallery of art and sculpture unsurpassed anywhere in the world.
