Raised Relief Map of the Moon features two 3-dimensional hemisphere maps of Luna, Earth's moon — the left hemisphere is the near side, while the right hemisphere is the far side. The 3D maps have a scale of 1” = 240 miles. Above the hemispheres is a scale diagram of the Earth, Luna, and the distance between the two at 1:500M scale. Below the hemispheres is a wealth of Luna history and statistics.
Hubbard Scientific is the largest manufacturer of raised relief maps in the United States. They begin with a flat map printed on sturdy vinyl. Hubbard Scientific then constructs a terrain model using digital elevation data from the Laser Image Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) instrument aboard the Clementine Spacecraft. The vinyl map is carefully registered with the terrain mold. Once the registration of the map is complete, it is vacuum formed over the terrain model.
